This file includes correspondence, memoranda, and records pertaining to the deportation of Japanese Canadians and Japanese nationals by the Department of Mines and Resources, Immigration Branch in 1946. It includes: applications for repatriation (e.g. of prominent Buddhist priests) as well as several requests for cancellations of applications for repatriation; discussions of “potentially disastrous” situation resulting from the deportation of Japanese Canadian farmers in Alberta; correspondence concerning questions of "loyalty"; and discussions about the arrangements made for shipping deportees. Notable are petitions requesting the stay of Buddhist priests and protest letters from numerous Buddhist associations. Records discuss the deportation of several specific individuals (e.g. logistics of deportation, identification).
